ACT 1 - 01 - Opening Chorus of Braves

Scene: The Hookapooka Village. Rocking Fox and other Indian Braves are removing war paint and dress, celebrating a recent victory over the Cavalry.

Braves:

We're regulation Indian Braves.
We're strong and bold. We're clever knaves.
We're skilled in every Indian lore
Except the vulgar trade of war.

We're regulation Indian Braves...etc.

Fox:

This make-up, though a garish art,
Is worn by ev'ry warrior.
It makes the squaws and horses start
And battle, all the gorier.

Braves:

These shocking masks still do their trick
In boosting our virility.
When enemies are frightened sick
It triples our ability.

Fox:

These costumes are of flashy dye,
A clothier's insanity.
Abusing every cultured eye,
Forestalling any vanity.

Braves:

These outfits are, as Heaven knows,
Aesthetically inferior
But worthy foes don't bow to clothes
Artistically superior.

We're regulation Indian Braves.
We're strong and bold. We're clever knaves.
We're skilled in every Indian lore
Except the vulgar trade of war.
